Overview

We have an excellent opportunity for an Trainee Electrical designer to join a well-established local engineering company based in Sunderland. The company’s current need is for an Electrical designer, someone who has experience in Electrical Automation systems, facility and machine maintenance. Previous qualifications preferred but not absolutely necessary as training can be given as and when required. We are looking for someone who wants to take their career to the next level. Always working at the forefront of current Automation technology, we require someone who has ability to pickup new systems and methods with ease and relishes a challenge. The candidate must be able to cope with working to strict timescales and under pressure at times. The successful candidate will develop existing experience by undertaking electrical design, producing 2D CAD drawings (experience with AutoCAD would be advantageous) working with suppliers and contractors as well as attending client and contractor meetings. Other duties will include carrying out snagging of electrical systems, commissioning and testing, organising work schedules, preparation of documentation, PLC software development and commissioning, SCADA and HMI development. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and progress designs passed down by senior engineers, assist with specification writing and equipment scheduling as well as being capable of carrying out detailed design for Automation control systems. In return we will offer a very competitive salary based on experience and skills.

Salary

£25k – £50k depending on previous experience.

As well as having technical knowledge, Candidates need to be able to project manage and multitask. Additional attributes, such as team leadership or management skills, are required as careers progress.

  • Identifying customer requirements
  • Designing electrical control systems and machines
  • Electrical Schematic design using AutoCAD/Eplan
  • Reading design specifications and technical drawings
  • Designing and conducting tests (Prototyping)
  • Preparing product documentation, writing reports
  • Making models and prototypes of products using three-dimensionaldesign software using Solid Works
  • Working to British (BS), European (EN) and other standards
  • Preparation of CE technical documentationElectrical Engineering
  • Proposing modifications and commissioning equipment

Purpose of Role

Due to the significant growth of our business, we have created a new role which we require filling immediately. We are currently seeking a highly organised, motivated and competent Electrical Supervisor with specific responsibility for the safety, technical standards and quality of our electrical installation work. The Electrical Supervisor will be required to liaise with the Engineering Team and coordinate the work load, staffing and site activities across multiple sites including the company’s own facility.

  • Planning & scheduling the workload
  • Good understanding of electrical installation and ability to read an electrical drawing
  • Estimating time and materials and ensuring all items are issued on time as required
  • Assigning and delegating tasks to the appropriate personnel within the work force
  • Determine and implement procedures for installation, modifications and maintenance tasks
  • Inspect all work to ensure compliance with our company standards and record data/results
  • Mentor and support the work force
  • Good communication skills and command respect
  • Implement and ensure all health and safety compliance is met and adhered to
  • Role will include regular weekend work with time off during the week in lieu
  • On occasion, work may need to be carried out at unsocial hours
  • On occasion, be able to travel and / or to stay away over night
Your Qualifications and Attributes

Knowledge of or experience within the automotive electrical engineering sector/Tier 1/Tier 2/ Contracting/ Major Projects with 5 to 10 years relevant experience in a similar role. SMSTS/SSSTS CITB qualification is desirable but not essential. Electrically competent and with up to date 17th Edition wiring regulations. Hold relevant NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds 2391 / 2394 / 2395 certification.
